Mindfulness-Based Trauma Support

Trauma-Informed & Phase-Oriented Care

Establishing Safety Before Processing

Trauma therapy prioritizes stabilization, emotional regulation, and internal safety before deeper processing begins. Clients are supported in building grounding skills and resilience rather than rushing directly into very painful material.

Honoring Readiness & Pace

Therapy respects each individual’s timing. Interventions are adjusted based on nervous system responses, emotional capacity, and current life stressors to prevent overwhelm while ensuring the person feels safe and promotes sustainable healing.

Supporting Meaningful Integration

Trauma is approached with care, clarity, and structure, allowing difficult experiences to be integrated rather than re-experienced. This mindful focus helps individuals find lasting relief and reclaim their lives through gentle restoration.

Integrative & Nervous System–Aware Therapy

Whole-Person Healing

Trauma affects thoughts, emotions, relationships, and the body. Integrative therapy addresses all these dimensions rather than focusing solely on symptoms, ensuring a comprehensive path to recovery that honors the whole person.

Attachment & Parts-Informed Support

Internal experiences are approached with curiosity and compassion. Clients develop greater self-leadership, emotional flexibility, and trust in their internal system, allowing for a deeper understanding of their unique needs and history.

Strengthening Regulation & Resilience

Therapy supports nervous system regulation, helping clients remain present, grounded, and emotionally stable as healing unfolds. This focus builds a resilient foundation, empowering individuals to navigate life with renewed balance.

Mindfulness-Based Trauma Support

Cultivating Present-Moment Awareness

Mindfulness practices help clients notice internal experiences without becoming overwhelmed by them. This awareness supports emotional regulation and choice, allowing for a steady, grounded approach to navigating difficult thoughts and sensations.

Reducing Trauma Reactivity

Through grounding, breathwork, and body-based awareness, clients learn tools that calm stress responses and reduce trauma-related activation. These techniques provide immediate relief, helping the nervous system return to a balanced state.

Building Self-Compassion & Stability

Mindfulness supports a non-judgmental relationship with thoughts and emotions, fostering inner safety and resilience over time. By practicing kindness toward themselves, clients create a stable foundation for deep, lasting recovery.

What is Trauma Integrative Therapy, and how does it work?

Trauma Integrative Therapy is a holistic, trauma-informed approach that weaves together multiple evidence-based modalities, such as EMDR, somatic awareness, and mindfulness, to help you process and heal from past traumatic experiences. Rather than focusing solely on the story of what happened, this approach attends to how trauma lives in the body and nervous system, gently supporting you in moving from survival mode toward a more grounded, integrated sense of self.

Yes. This approach is designed to support healing from a wide spectrum of traumatic experiences, including childhood adversity, abuse, neglect, loss, accidents, medical trauma, relational trauma, and complex PTSD. Our clinicians are trained to meet you at your individual pace, ensuring that the therapeutic process feels safe and empowering rather than overwhelming.

No. One of the core principles of trauma-informed care is that healing does not require re-traumatizing yourself. Our therapists use approaches that allow you to process difficult memories and sensations without necessarily retelling them in graphic detail. The emphasis is always on your safety, agency, and comfort. You are in control of the pace and depth of the work.

Trauma healing is a deeply personal process, and the number of sessions varies significantly from person to person. Factors such as the nature and duration of the trauma, your current support systems, and your individual pace of healing all play a role. Your therapist will work with you collaboratively to set realistic goals and regularly assess your progress, ensuring the approach adapts as you grow and heal.

Yes. Mindful State Therapy was founded by Karan Turnquist, LCSW, RPT-S, who expanded the practice to include EMDR training and clinical consultation. In 2024, Mindful State Therapy became an EMDRIA-approved training affiliate, reflecting our deep commitment to evidence-based trauma care. Our clinicians are trained in EMDR and other integrative trauma modalities, ensuring you receive skilled, compassionate support throughout your healing journey.
