While joint sessions are the foundation of couples and family therapy, there are times when individual sessions may be recommended alongside the shared work. Your therapist will discuss the most effective structure for your situation during the intake process. Consistency in attendance tends to support the most meaningful progress, though we understand that life circumstances can sometimes be complex, your therapist will work flexibly with your needs.

Yes. While the process is most effective when all involved parties are willing to engage, individual change within a relational system can still create meaningful shifts. If one partner or family member begins to communicate differently, set healthier boundaries, or respond more compassionately, this often influences the relationship dynamics as a whole. Your therapist can support you in navigating your own growth even within a complex relational context.

Confidentiality applies to all therapy at Mindful State Therapy. Within couples and family therapy, your therapist will also discuss how they handle information shared privately by individual members versus content shared in joint sessions.
